Second 1st in Class trophy
With their second 1st in Class trophy in hand, Rob, Sean, and Kevin are safely home after completing a tough Baja 500, and well on their way to the ultimate goal of being 1st in Class, over all four races. A record-breaking goal, as this has never been accomplished by a foreign team, without Mexican or American team members.
There are some battle wounds on this round though – Rob, who rode the most treacherous stretch of the 400-mile race, had his ride cut short after a mishap with sunstrike halfway through his first leg, which left him concussed. Rob being Rob, got back on his bike and finished the second half though he admits that has no recollection of his final 60 minutes of racing.
Check out this post, from the official racing site, unfortunately missing Kevin, who was still on route back to the finish line, It is fair to say that these unassuming Kiwis are making a name for themselves, and we couldn’t be prouder of them!
And on other biking news, Rob will be showcasing his award-winning Britten bike, (for those in the know - the one of that won all the records) at EROAD Fleet Day in Hamilton on the 26th July. The event is attracting attention for all the right reasons, with some of the world’s most incredible vehicles providing eye-candy over the course of the one-day event.
And lastly, if you missed out on contributing to the Baja / Painga Trust fundraising drive in February we are doing ‘last calls’ for anyone wanting to join in now.
The received donations have so far purchased equipment, and corrective hearing and vision treatment giving so many kiwi kids the chance to receive their education with their full learning capacity. @paingaproject, and APS are so grateful to all those who contributed – below is a list of key sponsors that have currently made up the 40k in donations.Â
