Surface rust on the sectional joints of the steel blue trusses
Project Details:Â Â
Surface rust on the sectional joints of the steel blue trusses that ran through the centre of the building.  APS was approached due to our rope access abilities and high compliance to health and safety (a major requirement for all trades working onsite)Â
Â
Challenges:Â Â Â
- Access – This provided the greatest challenge, the use of scaffold would have affected other trades working below.Â
- Environment – Ensuring it was suitable to deliver the right outcome for the product to perform.
- Health and Safety – working from height safely without risk to other trades
- Project Co-ordination – Minimising the required shut down time
Â
Outcome:Â Â Â
The APS solution proposed painting the trusses with a full 3-coat industrial 2-pack coating system, using a combination of rope access and EWP.
The APS site foreman monitored the temperature and curing of protective coatings, and all stages of preparation and coat applications were monitored by Resene, who provided the specifications and undertook site visits.
Two men painted from the walkway section in fall arrest harnesses and full PPE (gloves, respirator masks, helmets, hi vis, and steel caps) while two abseilers climbed on the outside of the structure painting the areas unreachable from the walkway. A great H&S result with no incidents. Works were completed under budget and on time with glowing praise from the client.
