Abseil Removal of Large Glass Panel

Details: 

A 200kg glass panel on an elevated walkway had shattered and needed urgent replacement.

Project challenges:  

Access was limited due to adjacent buildings, and a custom-made scaffolding would cost more than replacement glass panel itself.

Outcome: 

APS abseilers from the Height Safety Team erected a counterweight structure on the walkway roof to support the load.  Ropes were rigged to both sides of the walkway, and a custom-made cradle supported the glass panel while in transit.  The abseilers, by constantly balancing the 1:1 counterweight, were able to remove and replace the glass panel. 

The project was completed without H&S incident or disruption to the tenants.  The cost to the client was significantly less than the cost of scaffold hire.
