Sacred Heart Aquatic Centre Acoustic Upgrade
Swimming pools are notorious for creating noisy conditions with decibel levels exceeding 85dB constantly, leading to risk of permanent hearing damage. Learning environments are further impacted as these levels of noise make it hard (sometime impossible) for students to hear instructions, absorb information and avoid distractions.
Adding acoustic absorption to help control the levels of background noise is logistically hard in these large, humid spaces which is why APS & Autex Industries were engaged to work with Sacred Heart College and provide a solution to upgrade their Aquatic Centre.
With advice from Autex, The team from APS installed 12mm Autex Cube pavilion installed between the existing purlins using custom designed Marine Grade aluminium brackets. This installation method created an air gap for improved acoustic absorption, whilst also allowing for air flow to circulate which is critical in humid environments like swimming pools.
While this was a functional upgrade, aesthetically it looks great too and the result has meant that Sacred Heart students, coaches and teachers get the best possible experience while they are learning / teaching how to swim.
